Welcome to The Ready 2 Go Bag
I am Kylie Knoble , the owner of The Ready 2 Go Bag. I have established The Ready 2 Go Bag to help people who are vulnerable in our community to prepare in advance for unexpected admissions to hospital.
I have been working as a care manager and dementia consultant over the past decade in the community and before that as a nurse and diversional therapist , mostly in aged care.
For many years, I have been working with older people who need services and advice to remain at home. My clients have included people living with chronic illness, disability and dementia. I have also worked with people who have a friend or family member caring for them and people who live alone or have no family support.
As a care manager I encountered the situation of someone being suddenly rushed to hospital many times. Whether it was by ambulance or someone suddenly rushing to hospital themselves the problem was the same. People frequently got caught unprepared and ended up being in hospital without their medical information written down and with no clothing or toiletries.
As a care manager , I frequently received phone calls from hospitals requesting more information about someone who had been suddenly taken to hospital. I would also receive calls for help from people with limited family support asking if I could arrange someone to go to their home, pack a bag of clothing and bring it to the hospital.
In my own personal life , I have been in the situations where I have had to pack a bag of clothing and toiletries and take it to the hospital for a family member as well as trying to remember their medical information to share with the hospital.
Sometimes it is difficult when you are juggling other commitments to arrange to go to the hospital, pick up keys and pack a bag for someone else and then take it to the hospital straight away. Remembering someone else's medical information can also be difficult to recall in the middle of a stressful situation if you don't have it all written down.
I started to think about why we don't prepare a bag in advance for unexpected trips to hospital as well having our essential medical information written down.
I started to think about what I could do to assist people who are vulnerable to prepare in advance for unexpected admissions to hospital, including my own family members .
This is even more important now that we are living with the challenges of COVID-19 and changing hospital visitor restrictions. So, The Ready 2 Go Bag was created.
When you receive The Ready 2 Go Bag all you have to do is fill out your essential information form and pack your bag. Then write the location of The Ready 2 Go Bag on your fridge card where it can be easily noticed by ambulance officers or home care workers coming into your home. Your bag and essential information will be ready to go with you to hospital, anytime. And if for some reason your bag doesn't get taken with you in the ambulance, your family member or friend can simply locate the bag you have already packed and bring it to the hospital without having to worry about what to pack for you.
Having a bag already prepared with your underwear, clothing, and toiletries with you when you arrive at the hospital as well as your essential information may assist to bring you and your family some peace of mind when it counts.
